Concentration and creative thinking through crossover movements (BLICK-06-EN)

Description

In this exercise you alternately lift one leg and at the same time bring the elbow of the opposite arm close to the knee. Then you alternate. If this is done fluidly, rhythmically and without effort, then we can cross the body centre line well. Through this exercise, stress-related blockages can be released and eliminated. The ability to concentrate is increased and this exercise promotes creative thinking.

Tips for implementation

What should trainers take in consideration (cracking points, working environment, implementation in lessons, practical recommendations, …)

This exercise requires a certain degree of flexibility. Alternatively, the exercise can also be done while sitting. Then simply touch the opposite knee alternately with the opposite hand.

The exact description of the exercise is given below.

Resources/References

Kinesiological movement exercises, also called "Brain Gym", can release and eliminate stress-related blockages. They serve to balance and prevent. The originator of kinesiology was Dr. George Goodheart, an American chiropractor.

Crossover movements activate the connection between the two hemispheres of the brain and thus promote cooperation. Learning and concentration difficulties often indicate a dysbalance of the two hemispheres of the brain and could be improved with simple crossover movements.

Harmonious interaction between the two hemispheres of the brain can help reduce depressive moods or states of listlessness. By removing mental blocks, we can master daily tasks and challenges more easily and are more receptive to creative thinking.

Learning outcomes

Through this method/action, these benefits are achieved:

  • This exercise can improve the current mood.
  • This increases the general motivation to tackle tasks.
  • This exercise promotes creative thinking.

Description in clear steps

Step 1

Stand upright and relaxed. Do not push your knees all the way through but bend them slightly. Make your focus wide so that your eyes can relax.

Step 2

Now first lift your left knee so that you are standing on your right leg only and at the same time move the elbow of your right arm towards your left knee. Pay attention to your breathing. Breathe out in a relaxed manner while bringing the knee and elbow together. Now continue the movement harmoniously by placing your left leg back on the floor and bringing the elbow of your right arm back to the side of your body. Inhale in a relaxed manner during this movement.

Step 3

Now switch. Now lift your right knee so that you are only standing on your left leg and at the same time move the elbow of your left arm towards your right knee. Pay attention to your breathing as described above. Perform these movements calmly and without haste and do the whole sequence of movements for about one to two minutes.
